Aerodynamic Design

The ADAG research group has set up good aerodynamic design capabilities. Airfoil design and optimization have been major objectives of our research since 1990. Very good computer codes (see next item) for airfoil aerodynamic analysis up to the stall have been developed and extensively used.

Design of high-lift airfoils, low-drag airfoils, low-reynolds number airfoil (for RC model and UAV), wind-turbine airfoils and two-component race car wing airfoils have been performed.

Design of flap geometry, fuselages and low-drag bodies, wing-fuselage junction, winglet and wing-tip have been also performed by the group.

Design is always performed through optimization codes (based on numerical optimization methodologies) or inverse methods.
