Dal Giugno 1987 all'Ottobre
1990, responsabile del settore dell'aerodinamica subsonica e transonica del
CIRA, Centro Italiano Ricerche Aerospaziali.
Dal Novembre 1990 al 1999, Ricercatore confermato presso il
Dipartimento di Progettazione Aeronautica (ex Istituto di Progetto Velivoli)
della Facoltà di Ingegneria dell'Università di Napoli " Federico II
".
Dal 2000-2011 professore associato nel settore
ING-IND/03 – Meccanica del Volo - presso la Facoltà di Ingegneria
dell’Università degli Studi di Napoli “Federico II” ed afferisce al
Dipartimento di Ingegneria Aerospaziale.
Attualmente professore ordinario presso l’Universita’ degli Studi di Napoli “Federico II”
Attività nel settore Aerospaziale e delle Energie Rinnovabili:
Ha coordinato
il gruppo di ricerca applicata Aircraft Design AeroFlightdynamics Group ADAG (www.adag.unina.it ) composto mediamente da 12 ricercatori. Il gruppo ha sviluppato numerosi
progetti di ricerca applicata nel settore dell’aeronautica. Dal 1998 e’ iniziato l’interesse per le
energie rinnovabili con particolare riferimento a quella del mare ed a quella
eolica. In oltre vent’anni di attivita’ in tale
settore, il gruppo e’
riconosciuto sia a livello nazionale che internazionale nel settore e per
alcuni specifici sistemi brevettati ha conquistato una leadership
internazionale.
Temi
principali dei suoi lavori scientifici ed attività connesse alle ricerche da lui
condotte nel settore delle rinnovabili sono:

Studio dei
flussi viscosi intorno ai profili alari anche in regime non lineare e a basso
numero di Reynolds.
·
Analisi e
predizione delle bolle di separazione laminare.
·
Metodi numerici
per la predizione dei flussi viscosi e separati intorno a profili alari posti
sia in correnti incomprimibili sia in presenza di onde d'urto.
·
Design di profili e pale per le turbine
marine ed eoliche in base alle specifiche di progetto.
·
Collaborazione con il prof. Dini del Department of Physics and Astronomy del Carleton
College, Minnesota, USA, e con 1' ente governativo
americano National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) situato in Colorado per il progetto e
l'analisi delle pale dei generatori eolici. Per tale ente e' stata svolta una attività di consulenza
scientifica.

Sperimentazioni
in galleria del vento di profili alari. Numerose sperimentazioni sono state da
lui effettuate sia presso il Dipartimento di Progettazione Aeronautica sia
presso il Department of Mechanical Engineering della
University of Alberta, Canada, in collaborazione con il Prof. David Marsden, riguardanti 1'
analisi sperimentale ed il progetto di profili alari
·
Collaborazione
con il prof. Loek Boermans
del Department of Aerospace Engineering, Delft
University, Olanda, con il quale sono stati effettuati studi numerici e
sperimentali sulle prestazioni di profili e superfici portanti.
·
Responsabile scientifico di numerose ricerche finanziate e mirate allo
sviluppo di sistemi per la produzione di energia dal vento e dal mare
·
1998-2003 -Responsabile scientifico di varie
convenzioni di ricerca riguardanti il progetto aerodinamico, strutturale e
dinamico di una innovativa turbina eolico/idraulica ad asse verticale per la
generazione di energia elettrica pulita sfruttando le correnti di marea. E’ stato il coordinatore della realizzazione del prototipo
di tale turbina (

Ha partecipato, quale relatore invitato, a diverse conferenze
internazionali (in Cina, Australia, etc.) sulle energie rinnovabili. E’ stato invitato dal MIT (Massachusetts Institute of
Technology) di Boston a tenere un corso specifico
sugli aspetti scientifici ed economici delle energie rinnovabili dal mare.

Ha partecipato a varie trasmissioni televisive (Linea Verde Life, Ambiente Italia, Leonardo, Tg3 Campania, TG3
Sicilia) e radiofoniche (Baobab Radio 1) nonche’ e’ stato
intervistato da varie testate giornalistiche a diffusione nazionale (Quark,
Il Sole 24 ore,Corriere della Sera, Corriere del Mezzogiorno,Energie
Rinnovabili) su tematiche connesse alle energie rinnovabili. E’ citato nel libro “I nuovi primati del Sud” di
Antonio Parlato e Paolo Trapani, Dicembre 2002.

E’ stato
coordinatore scientifico di un progetto bilaterale tra Italia e Cina finanziato
dal Ministero degli Esteri nell’ambito del Programma di Scambio Culturale tra
Italia e Cina (2002-2005).

Cura numerosi rapporti internazionali tra i quali
quelli principali sono con l’Australia, il Canada, l’ Irlanda
e con

Ha partecipato allo sviluppo delle principali turbine
eoliche da 60 kW che sono attualmente commercializzate da varie ditte italiane
e sviluppa sistemi per la produzione di energia pulita dal mare (onde e
correnti marine) dal 1998.

E’ esperto
valutatore per la Comunita’ Europea, per il MIUR e per alcune
Regioni italiane (Trentino Alto Adige, Emilia Romagna, Puglia, Campania) di
progetti di ricerca industriale negli ambiti tematici dell’energia rinnovabile (marino
ed eolico), del settore aerospaziale,
per le Tecnologie dal Mare e per le Smart Cities

E’ stato membro della commissione nazionale RINNOVA dell’ ENEL per il premio Rinnova per le migliori tesi di
laurea nei vari settori delle energie rinnovabili
